Eng. Aseel Younis Mohamed, Chairman of the Renewable Energy Holding Company in Libya, revealed in an interview with CNBC Arabia that the government has launched a national renewable energy strategy extending to the year 2035. The strategy aims to increase the share of clean energy in the country’s total power production through a balanced mix of renewable and fossil fuel sources.
Eng. Aseel Younis explained that several plots of land have already been allocated for both renewable and conventional energy projects. He also announced the signing of an agreement with TotalEnergies to provide 500 megawatts of electricity starting next year — a step considered one of the largest renewable energy projects in the country.

He confirmed that the Holding Company is preparing to launch a series of new projects soon, covering both domestic production and regional export, with plans to allocate around 20% of the generated energy to the local market by 2035. He also highlighted ongoing strategic partnerships with several Arab countries, including the UAE and Qatar.
